We're looking for a range cooker with the following:
- 90 cm (W), 60 (D)
- stainless steel finish
- at least two oven (either 2 x electric or 1 x gas/1 x elective), pref with a separate grill
- gas hobs (min 5)

We're looking at:
- Rangemaster Toledo 90 (approx £1200 - ouch!)
- Rangemaster Professional 90 (approx £1300 - ouch +!)
- Hotpoint EG902GX (no separate grill but one in each oven, approx £850)

THe advantages of the Rangemaster, as far I can see are:
1) Separate grill
2) bigger ovens
3) One gas, one electic oven (rather than 2 electric)
3) Rangemaster

Anyone got any of these or can offer some thoughts? (or even alternatives?)

Grateful as ever!

    Please do tell me how!
  • Hi. Have you looked at the Belling Kensington 90? I'm sure we paid less than £1,000 for ours and could dig back through to find out if needed. Both ovens are electric though. Bloke from Ikea who gave us a design for our kitchen and also used to work for B&Q said Belling are under rated but a v good stove. My only gripe is the oven surfaces are a devil to clean. Otherwise it's fab.

Hi, 'Range cookers' for £1,000 without exception are all total rubbish and a complete waste of the world's resources, anyone that buys one is throwing money down the drain!

Quite simply all of these cookers are built for what they look like not what they do. The manufactures take one of their normal useless £200 cookers bolt a bit extra on the side and put different colured panels and knobs on - HEY PRESTO! a 'range cooker'!

If you want a true range cooker then you really need to look at something hand built and French and with a proper budget.

If you have got £1,000 to spend on cooking appliances you are miles better off spending it on reasonable quality built in appliances - a seperate double oven and hob from Neff say will set you back under the £1,000 and will cook your food properly, last a lot longer, be more reliable, be easier to keep clean - I could go on all day with reasons why this would be FAR better.

I would agree with this in most cases, the exception being Rangemaster, who do quite the opposite. The specialise in Range cookers and their normal ovens are the ranges with all the other bits taken out.

A Toledo will set you back about £1200 (they are £817.34 exc VAT direct from Rangemaster into kitchen suppliers), but it will last you forever and the customer support is great too. I wouldn't advise paying less for say a Hotpoint or a Smeg, as they aren't really that good and wont stand the test of time.

You could of course, follow CKDesigners advice and for example, get a Lacanche Range, but they don't do a 900mm model, so you'd have to go for a 700mm at £3200. Or even push the boat out and get a La Cornue 750mm range for around £9000. You could, of course, buy British and get an Aga, which you'll be looking at £3500 to £6000 for a 900mm model...

Stick to a Rangemaster and you wont go far wrong, I've sold LOTS of them in the past and never had any problems...
If it looks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, we have at least to consider the possibility that we have a small aquatic bird of the family anatidae on our hands

I have the Toledo 110, it has 5 gas rings (i think), an electric side thing, 2 electric ovens, a warming tray and grill. It's brilliant, but i think the ovens cost a fortune to run.
