    I have another question ...

My appointment letter says I have to let them know if I have any metal bits in my body and I have to remove all piercings(!).

I take it that means I'll have to leave the cleavage (and therefore the underwired bra) at home that day?!!

  • You will strip and they will give you x-large scrubs to wear (do don't take offence - we all get these). You will leave your handbag in a locked drawer (don't take a big bag) in the waiting area and the clothes in a changing room inside the unit.

I had to take all my piercings out and was advised that if my tattoos started to feel hot I was to let them know immediately as some tattoo inks have some metallic element in them.

They are VERY strict about the metal thing.

I'm curious now what happens about your fillings ... surely amalgam fillings contain mercury, even if it's only a small amount?!

I remember going down with a patient for an MRI and the radiographer nearly knocked me off my feet for trying to walk into the room!!!!! I was told the same thing about my tattoo but actually nothing was mentioned about fillings.

  • Nope, no mention of fillings, but realisticially, what can you do about them? You are allowed to keep your wedding ring on too.

I kept mine on, but when I moved my hand below the scanner (remember, I was in the open one and my head wasn't below the scanner bit) the ring "tingled" on my finger and it wasn't a nice feeling.

Just went for a Scan at Ulster Independent Clinic yesterday afternoon. It was the 'noggin' :rotfl:they were scanning so no problem with the wedding ring. Unfortunately, it was a closed scanner and a little clostraphobic to say the least. If there is an option go for the open scanner.

In the meantime as the Great Steve Wright said - "Keep takin the tablets!"
