Company phone usage

A company gives mobiles to employees, but the employees are never given or told about any usage policy.
Today an email was sent out, saying that some individuals have been using their phone too much. An amount for each employee will be calculated to be deducted from the next wage.
Do any of the employees have any rights?

Normally its in your job T&C's regards the phone. But this happened at one place I worked and they changed the T&C's accordingly. Bummer, but I guess the perk they give is the perk they can take back.0

How will the calculate what each employee must pay??"You were only supposed to blow the bl**dy doors off!!"0 -
Are they basing this on actual usage per phone?
In my place of employment, staff who are issued with a phone are expected to pay for personal calls made on the phone. Also, certain things are barred - video messaging, internet access etc.2021 Decluttering Awards: ⭐⭐🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇 2022 Decluttering Awards: 🥇

The will calculate what each employee must pay, by giving everyone x amount of minutes, and charging for the additional.
If they want to take the perk away, then fine. It's the retrospective policy change and charging that I think is unfair.0 -
.......If they want to take the perk away, then fine. It's the retrospective policy change.........
I can't see where it said it was retrospective in your posts.......... and charging that I think is unfair.
Why - have people been taking the mickey because they aren't paying the bill themselves? My employers once had a bill for over £1000 one month for one person's phone. Is that fair?
Don't forget that if it is a "perk" it may be taxable.0 -
Company mobile phones are not taxable.
Yes, maybe I didnt make the retrospective point clear.
Anyways, the company has reversed their decision, and will only implement from now on, and ignore the past usage0 -
I always thought a company mobile phone was a tool to help you do your job.
If you have been given no guidance, maybe it would have been prudent to assume that no personal calls were allowed, wouldn't it?0 -
Utter crap btw.
If the phone is used for personal use it is a taxable benefit, in many cases even just reimbursing employees for using their own phone can be taxable0 -
Sorry.

In my opinion:
A company mobile should be for work calls only
Your company email address should be for work emails only0
