listing paypal only, buyer wants to pay by cheque (totalling £14.00)

Buyer won my listing (clearly marked as paypal only) and now wants to pay by cheque. Total is £14.00 inc delivery.

BUT, whats the deal with cheques, I have never used them so can they cancel it after it clears in my account?

Or should I just go for second chance offer? (there were 4 bidders)

I don't mind that much getting a cheque, so long as I know that after it clears and I post the item, they can't go trying to get the money back of me. Would prefer paypal as it's my ebay baby fund, for buying stuff off ebay :D

I believe its possible to recall a cheque however after its cleared I don't think there is much chance of it happening.

I'd trust a cheque more then I'd trust paypal providing the cheque clears (can take upto a week)

Obviously don't post til it clears, but then you run into issues of posting within the 7 day timescale.

We post before low value cheques clear/are even put in.
The fees for a bounced cheque allow that!

If you are with a normal High Street bank the cheque will clear on the 6th working day after paying it in, under the new clearing rules they can no longer be recalled after that date.

Don't worry about the 7 day posting, that is for cleared payments so after cheque clears you then have 7 days to post.

However, for a buyer with good feedback and for £14 I would probably post a couple of days after paying cheque in and take the chance.

Sent the buyer a message saying yes, and giving my address. Should be fine. Thanks for your advice!

Atleast you wont have more fees from Paypal! Cheques are slow, but cheaper for the seller!
