I have a 120gb HDD in my laptop, which is restricting me, I have a small ext. hdd, but it is not convenient to have it connected most of the time. Thinkin of getting a new hdd around the 300gb mark, any suggestions for which one, and what speeds should I be looking for, and what difference to do they make.
Thanks

Firse you need to find out if it's IDE/ATA or SATA.They say it's genetic, they say he can't help it, they say you can catch it - but sometimes you're born with it0

Get as nas. Is this all music/video?0

No a mixture of documents/photos/music with a little video. Why would a NAS help?
I travel a lot and wish to have a copy of things with me.

It wouldn't if you need to travel, 120GB is a lot (understatement) of documents/photos/music, is it full?0

2.5" PATA driver are a fair bit more expensive than SATA, unfortunately.
you can get a 500GB USB drive with SATA at its guts for the same price as a 320GB internal PATA.
You're looking at around 80 quid for a 320GB drive. Do you need to take the data out and about with you, or is it pretty much just for use at home? If so, NAS might be an idea.
edit: you posted while I was checking prices. NAS is out if you need it when mobile, unless you have a net connection while you're mobile and even then the speed will more than likely !!!! you off since you'll be bottlenecked by the speed of your home connection.
That's a hell of a lot of stuff to need when you're on the go. If it's so important you need to have it handy at all times, I hope you have backups. They say it's genetic, they say he can't help it, they say you can catch it - but sometimes you're born with it0 -
You may be able to do something with what you have, but more information is required - how much music, how much data, how much video, how much space. Is the data compressed, mpg, itunes, mp3s etc? Is it one big partition, have you had a cleanup?0

I do have sufficient ext. HDD space, but just the convenience when out and about and yes, it is used away from normal home environment at lot.
Is it a mother board restriction that I cannot change to SATA?
