Selling stamps and coins

Hi All,
I wasn't sure if this was the right section in which to post this but am really hoping that it will still attract some advice from some of you kind people!!
I have a large-ish collection of stamps/coins and banknotes to sell , the majority of which are not of massive value, despite the initial outlay of a few thousand pounds.
However there are a couple of gold coins as well as some silver/dual-bonded ones in there.
I've looked down the completed items in ebay and cant find much on there. Can anyone tell me if the recent rise in gold prices is still in effect......and has anyone any advice re:sellings coins/notes/stamps etc.
Thanks in advance....

I would take advice from a specialist jeweller / auction house for any items you think are valuable. You might check Stanley Gibbons for the stamps.0 -
Stanley Gibbons appear to have given up on the private market. I have several crates of stamp albums, first day covers and loose stamps from an 80 year collection but they told me to find a local auctioneer as they were not able to assist in any form of valuation.
When I think how much the original owneer paid for some of this I could weep. I couldn't even find anyone at all who would even take a look.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. As someone who worked there, it could be because of the following:
1) did you refuse to pay the valuation charge? I only ask this as many customers would come in, and the expect that SG would value their collections for free. SG used to do this, but many people abused the situation: now they only do valuations for a fee: many people really resented this.
2) Most modern stamps (certainly post decimal) are only worth their face value
3) SG is only really interested in better, older material, or more recent errors.
4) First day covers are mostly without value.
Sorry if this all a bit harsh, but it's the truth from someone who knows what they're talking about!0
