Hi
I was in a hurry to book some flights with Olympic through Travel Republic so I asked my dd to complete the bookings (she is 16)
I did a quick check but did not notice that she did a shortened version of oh's name e.g Dan instead of Daniel.
I spotted the mistake next day when I printed the confirmation.
I emailed straight away
I took the TA 11 days to respond they want £15 for Olympic and £10 for themselves admin fee.
Could we travel with the shortened name on the ticket? or do I have to pay them £25 to have 4 letters added to the name, we fly on 24th June BTW.

I think that is cheap to be honest.
The alternative is that you turn up for your flight and you are refused permission to board - your call?0 -
Hmm not 100% sure, but I've travelled once before in the past when the ticket said Pete, whereas my passport says Peter, which is kind of similar.0

My main bug at work is people booking flights for others and having no idea how their name is shown on their passport or using their middle name to make the booking when their passport clearly shows their first name.
The choice is simple... Either change the ticket or risk being turned away at check-in.0 -
Being a charter flight, these have traditionally been more forgiving than the low cost airlines etc that charge a lot for this.
Have you tried contacting Olynpic Holidays directly? And therefore bypassing the additional £10 Travel Republic fee? May work, may not as some tour operators will only deal with the agent you booked through.
Another option is leaving it and chancing it. A lot of the time, and again being a charter flight where you will check in traditionally, boarding cards will only print with the initial and the surname; so as long as the check in agent will issue the boarding card there will be no further problems down the line with security etc.
Also sometimes check in agents can just change it there and then in a minute or so. I've experienced this with a spelling error with a member of a party I was travelling with, not an eyelid was battered the name was just changed at check-in and off we went.
Obviously, reccomending this as a course of action is hard as its your trip and not mine. It is an option; but be prepared that they may charge you to change it at the airport which may incur a fee, which may be more than the £25. Worse case they could refuse travel, although not even the low cost airlines would to that (well they would give you the option to change at an extorionate fee). However, charter flights and tour operators work slightly differently and I can't see travel being refused. (but that is my personal opinion)0 -
Tough call but it's really your problem not theirs, i know someone who had to pay £35 to have thier name changed to match exactly that on their passport from Kathleen to Cathleen, it was her cousin that booked the flight, she has been known as Katie her whole life.0

This will set you all tutting now.
DD also forgot to put in middle names so all 5 travellers names are incomplete:o My fault for not checking and I really have got no excuse except it was multi tasking and I know I should not.
There goes my bargain priced flight
Well we learn by experience don't we and sometimes it costs.
No body got hurt just my wallet so I'll chalk it down to experience.
Will try the direct to Olympic route today.

middle names dont count I have flown before and not used mine. I bet you will be ok like Peter mention above, why not email the airline after all it will be the checkin desk staff that would check this when you check in and customs dont need to see your ticket0
-
The middle names are irrelevant.
If you are travelling Visa free then i doubt Dan would make much difference. If you are traveling somewhere that requires pax information or a Visa then its imperative the name on the ticket matches that exactly on the passport.
That said for the sake of £25 i'd change it, give your daughter a backhander and learn from it0 -
Just an up-date
Olympic only put first initial on ticket so did not charge for OH's name to be amended. Travel Republic charged me £10 admin fee.
So I'm a happy bunny :j and yes I have learned my lesson
Thanks for all your replies :beer:0
