Change existing BT phone line from business to residential

Hi

My parents would like to change their existing BT line from being business to residential. How easy is this to do (how long would it take), is there a cost associated with this and are you tied into staying with BT for a period of time?

Assuming there's no gap in service, it is usually done at no cost, assuming the same services are carried on. If the person using the business line is the same (not a Ltd company) then a phone call should do it. If a Ltd company, one of the directors would have to write and formally provide the details of the person taking over.

It is most likely a new A/c number will be generated, and the minimum period of service will be 12 months.

About 6 months ago my son moved out and at his new house signed up for phone and internet for 18 months with B.T , he has now lost his job and moved back home, he hasnt cancelled with B.T because hes afraid they will ask for all the money up front, do you think they will still allow him to pay monthly till the contract ends, thanks for you help

To change from business tarriff to a residential tarriff you need to contact the BT Business Team on 0800 800 871 (opening hours are Monday to Friday, 08:30 to 17:30).
