What do you think of this idea?

Im thinking about setting up a website like youtube but specifically for gig and concert videos.

Im only posting this here by the way because the majority who go to gigs etc are young people and lots of students.

People will be able to upload videos of gigs theyve been to and other users who also attended the gig will be able to log on and search for the gig and download videos of the event if ones uploaded for it. There will be a rating system and the best videos will be only available to download for a premium user.

Reason being that i go to alot of gigs and concerts and sometimes my video quality is not so good or my battery runs out on my digital camera or my mobile phone etc and it would be good to get videos of the gig from different areas of the venue or closer to the stage or just have videos for the memory of the gig.

Another option could be then also to have pictures too.

Each user will have their own profile and be able to comment on other peoples videos etc

Ive looked over the internet and there doesnt seem to be anything like that, fair enough people can look on youtube for it but theres no direct download for it?

This is just the basic concept, what do you reckon?

You'd be sued within weeks. Youtube are forced to delete most concert clips , probably due to copyright infringement claims.

Yeah i didnt think of that, im going to make some phone calls tomorrow and see about the legal aspect of it because theres nothing going to be on there of "dvd quality" etc it will just be vids and pics taken from phones, digital cameras etc

I may scrap the premium user idea and try and make money from advertising rather than exploiting the artists etc

If it was a feasible idea, YouTube would have it covered.

Personally, I think there is nothing worse going to a gig with everyone around you too busy filming it on their phones!! Forget the phones/cameras and just enjoy!!!

You can also get - sometimes legally (see for example some of the live recordings on archive.org, with the artists' permission) - pretty well-recorded bootlegs of many gigs, downloadable free of charge. People often take quite a bit of care to record in the best possible quality.

Worth bearing this in mind, when considering what the competition is...
