Graphics Card Knackered???

Months ago my oldish card a NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200 seems to have been playing up. My monitor screen flickers and goes black and seems to keep clicking as though it is changing resolution. I have 2 Gig of memory and when i uninstall the graphics card it seems ok but obviously the screen updating is now very slow. I am guessing the card is knackered now but how do i know for certain? I have all the latest drivers from Nvidia.

It might be the screen it's self. Have you tried the monitor on a different computer or a different monitor on that computer?

Does sound like your monitor tho' is it a CRT one, ?? Then I guess you are over driving it via the screen refresh rate, set to start with, around 72 Hz and then try 85 Hz. If you are pushing it up to 100 + Hz then you could be in trouble there.

It sounds like you've reverted to using the integrated graphics on the motherboard? The slow screen updating should improve if you install the proper driver for whatever that graphics chip is.

Running on a AS Rock K7S41 motherboard but the dxdiag appears to say Direcrt Draw is not running???
I have Direct X latest driver installed how do i get 3d graphics to work?
  • When the monitor is clicking like you say unplug the cable from your computer to the monitor if the clicking stops and you see no signal on screen then its not the monitor its the card if the clicking continues then its the monitor.

    hope this helps.

The drivers for your board are here:
    http://www.asrock.com/mb/download.asp?Model=K7S41&s=462

Throw the "SiS VGA driver Xminator II ver:3.54" at it as see what that does.
