Home Insurance through Elephant

Hi

I ran a search through Confused and the best quote i could find for Home Insurance was through Elephant.co.uk I then obtained a quote directly from their website which states the insurance is provided by Heathlambert and again I was presented with a number of different quotes. The best being through an insurer called "Certain Underwriters at Lloyds and Great Lakes reinsurance UK PLC - 350"

I wasnt entirely sure what this meant. Is that the name of the Insurance company? Has anyone had experience of applying for Home Insurance through Elephant and did you come accross any problems?

Thanks for your help

This sounds like it will be a scheme administered by Heath Lambert which is underwritten (Insured) by Insurers who are Lloyd's of London Syndicates and Great Lakes who are also an Insurer. They will have an agreement between them agreeing to pay a percentage of each claim say 50% each

I personally avoid these types of schemes for home insurance

Thanks for the Info, that makes sense.
Would you mind saying why you would avoid these types of schemes?

You should also look at home insurance through Quidco. The cheapest deal I could find was TSB and then I applied through Quidco and got £120 cashback also.

I've used them before (I'm a broker) in my experience the cover is not amazingly comprehensive and the claims are sometimes not the greatest.

As a general rule of thumb most brokers would not Insure their home or vehicle with a Lloyd's syndicate. There are some brokers that may argue this and their are some Home Policies that are backed by Lloyd's syndicates at the top end of the market eg for High Net Householders I do sell to customers and would use myself (If I was it that bracket).

What other companies are coming up near to their price?

Thanks dacouch. The others around that price were Quinn Direct, Liverpool Victoria, Argos, home protect, smart people budget, direct choice and barclays. Those are in order from cheapest up.

I will take a look at Quidco too thanks abbecer.

I bought buildings only insurance last night through asdafinance.co.uk. They search a few insurers. Mine worked out at 80.13 for the year and because I had went through quidco I'm on track for £49.50 cashback, so buildings insurance for the year including accidental cover will be just over £30 :j

Avoid Quinn, LV are not to bad.

If your usin a comparison site they tend to quote with big excesses to make their premiums appear low. So you know how big your excess is click on where it says "Excess" and look at what the "Voluntary" Excess is and also he "Compulsory Excess". Add these two amounts together which will show you how much you have to contribute towards a claim. Personally I find its best to keep your excess as £100 or preferably lower unless your premium is over say £350.

You might find this voucher handy (Bear in mind you do not always receive the cashback so look at it as a bonus), you might need to clear the cookies on your computer and run the quote through the quidco website to get the cashback http://www.quidco.com/lv-home-insurance/

    Cheers all
I will likely stay away from Elephant and Quinn then and i will do a bit more research and probably apply for something through Quidco. I will keep an eye on the excess too.
