I suppose what I meant by all this was, as you get older does your luck somehow change or do you actually need to go out and do something to make your luck change I.E change jos, get some training, take on another job etc etc in order to get more money. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. You make your own luck as life goes on - your attitudes may change and your decisions about what you are prepared to do and want to do may differ from the ones you have had in previous years.
For example - in your earlier threads you have made it quite clear that there is no point in slogging away doing the "extras"......you have stated (which is fine - it is YOUR decision) that life is not there to be working all the hours you can. But you also state that you are fed up of not being able to afford what you want....the gadgets and the lifestyle etc.
So, in the future, it is not your luck that will change this, but your attitude. At some point, you may decide that in order to get the new laptop or gadget, you will be happy to do the time consuming surveys or review products on dooyoo etc to get the extra cash together to do it. It is all about YOU deciding on what is important to YOU and what YOU are going to do to get it.
As for luck - well, it depends what you call luck. When my debt was at its highest (over 100k, without my mortgage), I inherited a few thousand pounds - lucky?? Well, it certainly came at a time that was most needed. But in order to get that money, I lost my Dad. Lucky? Absolutely Not.
Sort out in your own mind what it is you want from all this - and work out with the help of these boards what you are going to do in order to get it.Successful women can still have their feet on the ground. Very good post Hypno, Nirelandguy - For your situation to change you will have to change, look to a career change, get a part time job maybe? I also asume you are seeking help for your Agraphobia, if not then that should be a priority.... A SOA would help.0

Wear sunscreen - if you don't want to wear sunscreen then find the musical equivalent online.

With us, it wasn't luck which finally improved our lot, I went back to work after spending a few years (literally just a couple) not working and dealing with the children, then once back in work, I started working extra shifts...at the same time, hubby took on the office cleaning on top of his normal work.
The result of this was initially it got us over the hump and ultimately, put us in a good light with our employers meaning we got bigger payrises and bonuses...hubby could cut down on the cleaning and I could cut down on the extra shifts but for any major purchases or outgoings, we could up the work again to pay for it.
Thus we could get the luxuries without feeling the pain.
Of course now, I am back down at the bottom again but I am doing all I can to change my lot....I retrained into another sector (and realised that my dream job wasn't such a dream afterall and I hated it), am nearing the end of an IT course which makes me more employable at a higher rate and have started a degree in law, so that when the children are more independent, I can combine my old career with a new one and hopefully (fingers crossed time here) re-enter the workforce full time in a higher paid capacity.
So a little bit of luck goes into it but it also needs extra work and dedication.
Well that is my take on it anyway...others could be different. We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.

I think Hypnos post completely summarises my feelings on the subject.
I truly believe that 99% of the time you make your own luck. If you want a higher pay job then look for one or train for one. I am working full time, doing a degree, a single parent and actively applying for jobs as this is what I need to do to get on the next rung of my career ladder.
All the little extras to make money from this site are time consuming but that time is providing money in my bank account and getting me nearer my debt free date. If they only shave off a few weeks from that day then in my eyes they are worth it.
I am likely to be debt free earlier then I thought. Is this down to luck, nope this is down to the break down of my marriage and selling my home.
Good luck with your journey and hope things get easier.Proud to be dealing with my debts - DFW No: 712

Mostly in life we get out what we put in. In your position you do need to try and get help for your agoraphobia that is probably the first step. Once you have conquered that then a lot of avenues for retraining, reskilling, getting another job etc start to open up for you.....Achieve FIRE/Mortgage Neutrality in 2030

i totally agree here, life is what you make of it. if you want it, go and get it, but dont expect it to come free.
i dont have a degree, it just wasnt for me, so i started at the bottom of the ladder in my career and worked my backside off to get up the ladder, now im heading up a team of 6 people, and next in line to move up to the next management level.
None of this came easy, Ive worked 60 odd hour weeks, ive had nights when ive come in at midnight, and left again at 4am, but i want it, so ill do anything in my power to get it. you seem to lack this drive from all ive read from your various threads. theres nothing anyone here can say to help you until you help yourself.
dont expect anything to be handed to you, expect to work for it. best of luck.

Glass half-full as vs half-empty outlook on life perhaps?
Optimism, even in the toughest times, helps. For example: I've always been dirt-poor with periods of more comfort in between. Not my own doing - due to disabling bouts of spinal surgery most recently.
If I was to win £1000 of holiday vouchers but no spending money? Wow, I'd be happy anyway - book a cheaper n cheerful all-inclusive holiday so I wouldn't need to buy any ice cream anyhow!
I do disagree however, with the saying "you make your own luck". If you have been dealt life cards thats result in illness and disability you have no choice about that. *BUT* you have the choice about how you respond to it!
If you are well, if you have people who love you you are lucky and that's how I see it!0
