Can I make payments to my mortgage?

hi.

I have just found out I am eligible for IS.

If I have any money left at the end of each month would I be able to pay it into my mortgage as I have recently changed from repayment to interest only.

I dont know of any reason why you shouldnt be able to pay any excess benefit towards your mortgage but i would also check Direct.gov as there are thingss being put into place to help people with mortgage problems.

if your entitled to any of the help available it will mean you can use all your IS to support your family

I cannot see any problems with you doing this but as you are on IS you should be able to claim help with your mortgage interest after a waiting period of 13 weeks.

Thanks Healy. I know about the mortgage interest but have quite a big mortgage (well I think it is anyway) and would rather use the spare money (if I have any) on the mortgage as I think it would serve its purpose best there
