Citroen C3 Diesel - Black smoke

I do eco drive the car though. Hardly ever accelerating at full throttle and try to keep revs under 2000 except when I am going fast enough for it to go over.
To be perfectly honest I cant see the point in eco driving a diesel mine doesnt care if i drive below 2000 or over 3500 constantly i still get the same MPG I think with a diesel the benifit of eco driving over clogging up with soot it out weighed you may use less revs but you are putting more stress on components and keeping soot inside instead of blowing it out I could be wrong but i find it easier to use most of the rev range then choose the appropriat gear eg 1,2,3,5 or if slowing down 5,3 alternatively drive a few miles in the lower gear as suggested 4th in a 60 for 3 or 4 miles shoudl do it.If it doesnt pay rent sell it.

When I drive "eco" keeping under 2000rpm while accelerating for a tank full and measure mpg I get the same result as when I use the full torque of the engine 2000 to 3500rpm+, decent amount of accelerator pedal push and get up into top gear quicker. No measurable difference.0 -
There is an approx. 6mpg difference. I have been keeping a spreadsheet since I bought it.
I will do a bit of low gear/ higher rev driving to blow it off and get that additive/use BP ultimate.
May give it another shot over a few days of driving normally instead of eco driving and take some figures again.0 -
no point in have a turbo d car if you dont use the turbo much0

Things that kill mpg on my car is short trips, town driving and winter (about 10% drop in mpg), I can go anywhere from 37mpg to 54mpg. Anything else that varies in driving conditions has a much smaller effect. Add a roof box and a full load with tyre pressures increased accordingly I only loose 2-3mpg.
If I drive to avoid unnecessary braking, but accelerate swiftly when appropriate that can get me an extra up to 2mpg on the same route.0 -
Some of the smaller common rail diesels do have a nasty tendancy to go on the drink when pushed. I'm thinking particularly of the sub 1500cc Renault/Nissan units, the 106bhp version. Fuel consumption can vary between low 70's to below 50 purely dependant on engine speed over a good journeyI like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)
