Hips Providers ?....Prices...

Does anyone know any good hips providers?

We live in wolverhampton and are in the process of putting our house on the market.
Our estate agent wants £425 total which i believe is on the expensive side..

Is there any reasonable providers in the wolverhampton area which people have used?
Does the company have to be local or can you use a national supplier?

Hope you can help...

ps: Dont reply if you have less than 10 posts

cheers

  • You should get it cheaper than that (£425) but you will have to complete the new PIQ form which has traps for the unwary. Ask them whether they will advise you about completing this form. I doubt that the very cheap ones will.

As a retired conveyancing solicitor I believe the information given in the post to be useful assuming any properties concerned are in England/Wales but I accept no liability for it.

Whats a PIQ form? What does it involve?

Also, how long does it take to complete the total hips procedure/forms?

    cheers

There are a few companies in your area. Should take about 7/10 days for the HIP. Heres the link for the PIQhttp://www.communities.gov.uk/publications/housing/propertyinformationquestionnaire
  • Hi,

I used Nethouseprices and they were very quick and spot on for £235, it was last July. www.nethouseprices.co.uk.

They are online so doesn't matter where you live

  • Just be aware that an estate agent may charge you a fee to check the HIP you organised yourself.

An estate agent I had round today wanted £50 plus vat to check my HIP. I explained that it had been done by a Chartered Surveyor (after the new rules 6/4/09) but was told that the EA is liable if anything was wrong with it and could face a £200 fine.

I said I appreciated there may be a problem with some on-line providers, but mine was done by a "professional". She agreed to do it at cost £35 +vat (I was hoping for it to be waived!). Apparently they send them to a solicitor and they check and upload them onto the EA's website.

If the EA had done it, they would charge £400 (and I'm guessing plus vat as everything else including the £10 accompanied viewings were!)

Overall it still works out cheaper for me organising it myself

(Oops just realised you didn't want responses from anyone with less that 10 posts!)

I have just used hips4u.com and they were very good. I paid about £180 for a two bedroom house. Was originally quoted £400.

I do not regret it for a second.

PS: If an EA wants to charge you for checking the HIP, they have no right and also no reason...:rolleyes2

Another hips4u.com customer here (November 2008) . . . Estate Agents charge more as they make money on them too . . . and estate agent that wants to charge you something for having arranged your own hip can take a run and jump!

I think we paid £190 with My Hip Home. Found them through Google, they were quick and hassle free!
Happy days, its been the only hassle free thing so far!!
