Can anyone recommend a free spyware scanner?

  • Ad-Aware is good - it scans for Spyware and AdWare. That's free. And Yahoo offers a SpyWare checker too - also free. Both good.

Spybot search and destroy is another popular one. However I've got all the above except the yahoo one on my PC but find that mostly the one that finds nasties is Ewido Anti-Malware. I think its important to keep the PC junk free as well so use Ccleaner regularly. All mentioned are free.
That gum you like is coming back in style.
  • Have a look at the 46 best freeware utilities site. I can't remember who posted it first on this site, but it's been recommended many times and is well worth bookmarking.

Last time I looked, they recommended M$, Adaware and Spybot

  • Thanks for all your help. The 46 best freeware utilities is an excellent site. Have now cleaned up my pc and it is functioning considerably better. Found a rather worrying sdbot that some bas*ard managed to sneak in past my firewall, so all in all some excellent help.
