citroen picaso fault

Can anyone help, my citroen picasso diesel sounds like it has a pneumatic drill under engine ? ? ? ?
Any ideas what this could be ? :confused:
Does it sound like the cam belt, its never been changed as far as i know. Its 7 years old.

    7 years, i wouldnt be surpirsed if a tensioner had maybe failed and let the belt go slack.
    to be honest i dont really have any sympathy if it has. it was only a matter of time really,but im sure you knew that.

  • i would get it checked, i have picked up road debris in a belt before, or it could be something more sinister

    is the oil level ok?

    A common fault on these is the damped crankshaft pulley failing. It tends to get progressively more rattly over time. This in itself is not such a problem, but if the pulley fails altogether it can take the cambelt with it, which is a big problem!

    to be honest i dont really have any sympathy if it has. it was only a matter of time really,but im sure you knew that.

    In fairness the official cambelt interval on HDi diesels is 10 years or 100,000 miles. I personally wouldn't leave it that long though.
