Are you claiming that macs have greater sales than windows systems?Ubuntu is an ancient African word, meaning: 'I can't configure Debian'.0

Shockingly bad advice. I hope you don't offer to fix peoples computers for them.0 -

Yes, that's exactly what I said.
My point is, that people act as though they have to use XP or Vista, and if they don't like either, the received wisdom is generally "wait for Windows 7". People even go so far as to buy a computer with an OS they don't want because they don't think there's an alternative. And I know the OP is just asking as to which is the better OS to use, but that would be the sort of thing I'd think about before buying a computer, not afterwards. Especially when buying an HP Touchsmart, a product line that can have Mac prices without any of the advantages of owning a Mac.
I'm just curious as to understanding the thought processes that go on when reaching such a conclusion. It has always baffled me that people put more thought into buying a toaster that they might use once a week on a Sunday morning, than they put into deciding what OS to use on their computer which they might use for hours every day.
I'm not interested in starting yet another Mac vs PC debate. There are enough such threads for those interested in partaking. The OP has raised some interesting questions about choosing an OS, and I thank him for it.0 -

I don`t quite see that my question automatically implies that not much thought went into the decision. I can assure you it did.
My main requirement was for a all in one machine. That as you will be aware immediately limits choice, I did consider a Mac and only saw the HP when I went into Currys to have a play with one.
I won`t bore you with the reasons, but I decided against a MAC which left me with a Vista PC, I looked at Dell`s offering but that didn`t appear to be available with XP either.
Thanks for all the comments.0 -
I switch UAC off on mine (It just completely p***es me off)

Just stick with Vista you will find there is people who always like to defend the old system.
"Don't get XP stay with 98"
a few years later
"Don't get Vista stay with XP"
People don't like change, Vista is fine and overall is an improvement on XP, yes it had niggles but SP1 has sorted most things. The same way XP wasn't too great until until SP1.Have my first business premises (+4th business) 01/11/2017

Well, Apple build all-in-on systems better than anyone else, so I imagine you had a rather limited selection once you discounted them. You still could have ran either XP or Vista on a Mac if you had wanted to though.
For what it's worth, I used to have a Windows install on my Mac for doing some occasional gaming, and tried both XP and Vista. I eventually settled on XP as Vista ran dog slow, but I understand SP1 has sorted out some of Vista's initial teething problems.0 -
I've been running Vista on my main PC for ages; it is fine.
If you turn off UAC, you are disabling a major component of system security, and it does appear less and less as time goes on.0 -

Sorry, with all this talk of UAC, I couldn't resist.
I now return you to your scheduled discussion.
