Anyone else having problems with Abbey?

We put an offer on a house in feb and haven't got a mortgage offer through yet  We were supposed to be moving house beginning of May.

The abbey took 4wks to approve the 2nd valuation we had done (they'd put a £5k retention on the house for £600 worth of wood treatment). They told our financial advisor 2-3wks ago that our mortgage had been approved and that the paperwork would follow. We've had to provide proof of income and proof of deposit weeks ago for them which we did same day as requested. We're still waiting for the mortgage offer paperwork to come through! Our financial advisor has been chasing them but can't get an answer out of them or even get to speak to a manager! We're pulling our hair out. The estate agent is on our back. Our solicitor can't do anything until he has the mortgage offer.

We're renting and the tenancy ends 23 May, we got to be out by then as our landlord wants us out as soon as possible as he has the house up for sale and is !!!!!! that we're not buying it. Feel sick that we're gonna end up homeless cos of the numpties at the abbey.

The Abbey seem to take the longest, over anyone. This is because they do all the underwriting before survey...they are a bit of a nightmare, all you can do is keep on at them, and your broker as well. Tell them that you risk losing the house.

At least the LL is selling and not renting again, so he may be happy for you to keep renting it for a few weeks if need be, if you are happy to do the viewings for him. It would be worth speaking to him, you have quite a few weeks yet, and if thats all your waiting on, then as soon as you have it, you can exchange. Fingers crrossed it comes through soon for you.
