A few tenners here and there, it soon adds up!
As to films, free cinema tickets are one idea, but you could give something like LoveFilm a try - you can get paid to do free trials for them, through cashback sites (think I got about £15 when I tried Lovefilm earlier this year
). One of my friends who used to spend a LOT on DVDs decided to carry on with one of these companies after the trial ended, and has saved herself a small fortune! OK, so you can't get things at the same time they are in the cinema, but the cinema isn't a cheap evening out like it used to be (though taking your own snacks helps!), and waiting a few months isn;t THAT onerous.

if you want to save money on DVDs, filmcircle.co.uk swaps your old ones for something new. Much cheaper than Lovefilm, plus you get the cover and disks are yours to keep. This promo code gave me 4 months free trial : WB374938E0

Thanks!:D what a great idea, will certainly give that a go in the future. thanks to others for their kind words and support.
I was just wondering, I have started meal planning (first time this week) and my weekly shop for this week which I did online at Tescos, came to £34.50 which included some toiletries. There are 2 adults and 1 child in the house. So this does include some packed lunch stuff as well.
Is this good? I tried to trim it down as much as I could!
Let me know your thoughts peeps! thanks.LBM: April 2009 - honest debt figure: Secured: £0.00!! (paid back april 2017) unsecured: £53117.48 (roughly) back with CCCS starting again:(0 -
Yes £34.50 for a weeks shopping is very good

Savings... There is NO way you are getting 17+% on your savings so assuming you get what? 4%? It's COSTING you at least 13% to have your savings instead of paying something off with them... The only time to have savings AND debts is if your debts are at 0% apr
Also try to bulk cook - then put any leftovers in the freezer for those days when you're stuck for time instead of those horridly expensive and unhealthy microwave meals
Fan heater... It's summer... (well near enough) why on earth does she still have it on???
confiscate and hide till winter - if she's cold then socks and an extra blanket. I know I'm very unsympathetic over people having heaters on in bedrooms as I sleep in the nuddy, window wide open and no heating on even in the middle of winter
Can't abide hot bedrooms :rotfl: DFW Nerd #025DFW no more! Officially debt free 2017 - now joining the MFW's!

Hi to all again! lol
I have got a question. OH has decided to write to the bloody awful halifax credit card  as their apr is absolutely awful. Their minimum payments vary month to month, but when I checked the interest, they are slapping on more or less £200 every month:mad: we are never gonna get anywhere!!
Anyway, we want to write a letter asking them to freeze interest for about 6 months and to accept a lower monthly payment of around £150-£160 (currently we pay between £180-£190). Any ideas/templates for a letter? and what do u think our chances are of halifax accepting? its just plain ridiculous.
Also I decided to be brave today and cut up all of my credit cards! as they are the root of all evil! lol. Hope u can help me guys thanks:DLBM: April 2009 - honest debt figure: Secured: £0.00!! (paid back april 2017) unsecured: £53117.48 (roughly) back with CCCS starting again:(0 -
Hi JC
I'm no expert in this but I expect that if you ask Halifax this they may ask to see your SOA. They probably won't be happy that you continure to pay the other creditors 100% of their normal payment and they (Halfix) are the only ones getting less.
If your credit rating is okay at the moment before you go down this route it might be worth trying to get a lower rate life of balance card to switch this debt to first. Think there are some about with around 5% life of balance. If you do this NEVER spend on the new card.
Well done on cutting up the Credit Cards though :T A big step!A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0 -

Hi thanks for the advice. OH decided to give Cap 1 a go, as they are doing life balance transfers, should hear within the next 7 days if he has been accepted or not. fingers crossed! I have been and done the snowball calculators again for the credit cards:mad:. found another link on here for a different one, must be doing something different, cos one said I would be DF in November 2011 and the other one November 2014! lol. Oh well, worst case scenario, 2014 aint too bad, cant complain really I suppose! At least hopefully that will be an end to the nightmare that is my life at the min! Just realised today that the 2 unsecured loans that my and OH have between us, will be finishing in 2011 and 2012 :j I thougth it was longer! So all in all, I am starting to feel a bit better now about things. Especially when I have read today, that there are peeps on this board who got much more debt than me, kinda keeps things in perspective really. thanks to u all so far for all of the ideas and support you have given me, its nice to know that we are here for each other, giving out support and hugs!:D Thank god for MSE! Im truly addicated now! lol. I love you guys!
