Firstly, id like to admit my finances are in a horrific mess. I have been working abroad for the past two years and having come back i do not even know where to start.
I am not even sure what banks and what debts i have. I have a rough idea and will be going to town on friday to try and find out.
The accounts i do have, definately have not been used in the past two years and i know at least one has been closed down due to going over my overdraft.
Damn my student days - they battered my finances and im hoping not irrepairably...
The question i really need asswering is - if the account is still in debt can i still claim the charges back?

Yes you can.
What you probably want to do is think of all the companies you are/were in debt with and send each of them a data protection act subject access request. This will cost you £10 for each company tho, but the info is on you as an individual not as an account so if you have two or three products with one company you'd only need one £10 fee.
Did you come home to a pile of mail then?LegalBeagles0 -
my daughter claimed her charges back while in debt with the bank, and the refund cleared the debt - and had a bit left over. go for it and good luck xx0

Can i reclaim interest charges etc on things like unpaid parking tickets and other (non bank) charges that seem just as excessive?0

Such as?
Well I'm pretty sure almost all of these bank accounts, parking tickets and the like are with debt recovery agencies who have applied their own fee's. Im not sure if i get the bank charges back it will cover my debts, but if they do then obviously i shouldnt have to pay these debt recovery charges but what if im still in debt after getting the bank charges refunded?
I hope that makes sense! Does anyone have any experience in a similar situation?0 -

I still don't understand the "non bank related charges". Bank charges can be reclaimed from the bank, parking fines from the relevant authorities, debt collecting fees from the relevant DCA. If the bank didn't impose the charge then you cannot claim a parking ticket, for example, back from the bank.0

My bank accounts have been passed to Moorcroft Debt Recovery Services who have applied yet more charges to my debt - Can the Moorcroft fee's be reclaimed?0
