Tesco Plc, Europe’s second-largest retailer, reported the slowest profit growth in 15 years as price cutting by competitors eroded its U.K. market share and the company’s 17-month-old U.S. chain posted a loss

  • They're not opposing - they're both right. Tesco has made record profits as its higher than last year. The growth rate vs last year is slower.

Why is Purch trying to make a snide point about the BBC? At least pick something where they have got it wrong mate, or you just look like a tit.

    Not opposing ??

They show a totally different emphasis on what each want to highlight.

It amused me. I'm sorry it didn't amuse you.

    P.S. Disclaimer: I've just bought 5,000 TSCO

Isn't the difference that the BBC is a news channel whereas Bloomberg sells information to investors - rate of change of profit is important for pricing a stock, hence Bloomberg's differing emphasis.

What does that have to do with whether or not the two headlines oppose each other? Both were absolutely correct. Choose whichever spin you like, the two stories did not oppose each other as they both reported correctly the facts.

Anyway, Tesco making any profit at all is an impressive performance. They have made some dubious forays into the international marketplace (Fresh n Easy in America having a particularly poor time), they have a vast land bank whose value will have crashed along with the rest of Uk real estate, they've been heavily squeezed by the discounters (Aldi/Lidl/Netto especially) and they're losing UK market share for the first time in decades. They've had to introduce all kinds of lower margin deals and products to stay competitive so UK profits are under the squeeze as well.

Obviously you dont shop at Tesco.

Our local town (Hexham) we have 3 supermarkets Tesco, Aldi and Waitrose. Mad thing is that for out weekly shop, waitrose is cheaper.

Tesco are fab for offers, but not if you know what you want.

Trouble is both articles are precised down to fit the web pages.

Good to see that we still have one sucessful British company, operating overseas in 14 countries and employing some 440,000 people.
