Baby's Fresh Cows Milk

Hi

Just some advice, my daughter is 16 months and I have recently taken her off follow on milk and changed to cows milk. She has a habit of not drinking her milk in one go and sips at it over a long period.

There is a note on the SMA formula tin saying that the milk should be drank within the hour and then to discard the rest. Does anyone know how long I can leave her with a bottle of warm cows milk before getting rid of it or it going off?

Many Thanks
:j BABY A :j

orr your baby girl sounds gorgeous very dainty sipping away!! who could blame her! why dont you try just filling it about a third up so its not hanging around as long and fill up as she drinks it (i do that with my little girl but she is the opposite its large cupfuls gulped down!!! but when i think shes had enough i put a third in give it to her and then a third again if she wants more etc! rather than wasting it)
hope this helps best of luck!!

    Hi Baby A
The notice on the SMA tin to discard the remainder after an hour benefits the manufacturer in 2 ways:
    1. it covers their backsides legally if someone was to leave milk lying around for days and then try to claim that drinking it had made their child ill.
    2. it conveniently increases their profits by increasing the amount of wasted milk and therefore the amount that will be bought.

How you deal with this depends on your attitude to life in general, ie are you laid back with a grubby but functional kitchen and pets around the house, or a wiper-down or worktops with disinfectant and a thrower-out of any cheese/yogurt/etc once it reaches its sell by date?
You will know where you are on this spectrum and the important thing is to do what you feel comfortable with. Across's idea to give less in the first place is a good one.

As she get's older she'll probably drink more in one go and it won't be an issue. You could try using a cup (with or without a spout) instead and getting her to sit down to drink. Bottles deliver very slowly for an active toddler and sipping can be a habit because they get interested in something else before their thirst is quenched.

    All the best,

My baby has it in bottle at 8pm in case he wakes in night and sometimes may drink from it at 8am the next morning & its not refrigerated although my house is not a warm house but hes still ok & never had tummy troubles.

Will she only drink milk if it's warm? Mine only ever drank cold as they didn't like it warmed up, then you could just pour from the bottle as and when required.
