Best Broadband & Phone package that works

I currently use
Sky broadband and pay £5.00 per month for upto 8mb - and have BT for my calls - but it usually ends up costing about £20pcm - mostly due to any 0870 calls you have to make to utilities that keep you on the phone for ages.

However, my Internet connection is terrible. I currently get this

Speed Down210.81 Kbps ( 0.2 Mbps )Speed Up345.22 Kbps ( 0.3 Mbps )

I have a wireless laptop, a wireless Mac and a hard wired pc - don't do any major downloading - just small scale web sites and mostly emails.

The support from Sky is a waste of time and I go round in circles - because they say its problems at my end.

Can anyone think of how I can get a better service - we have played around with the router channels - but still end up falling asleep waiting for a page to load - in between it dropping the connection.

thanks

If Sky are saying that the issue is at your end, have you checked to make sure that this is not the case.

If you go to the BT site and check for broadband availability, what does it report as your maximum possible speed? How far are you from your exchange?

    Have a look here http://www.samknows.com/broadband/exchange/SMBI

Click on 'Exchange Search'. It will give you all the info on your exchange, and will also tell you which providers are available in your area.

I must say that I have been with Sky for ages and haven't had any problems that couldn't be solved with the help of Google!

Sky are one of the better ISPs. If you have slow speeds then you are either on a very long line or there are problems with your internal wiring. Moving ISP will fix neither of those things.

This isn't the best place to get advice on ADSL try a specialist forum such as - http://forums.thinkbroadband.com

Try connecting your router to the master test socket and post your router stats.
