Little Advice Regarding Wireless Network Cards, Confused! :)

Hi,
Right I have a little problem, I basically can’t connect to my works wireless connection as it turns out my laptops Intel wireless card doesn’t support the 'G' network used. I’m basically trying to find out if I can upgrade my wireless 'Intel PRO Wireless 2100' card to a newer version which supports the 802.11g 'G' network not just the current slower 802.11a, 802.11b ones. I have an Acer travelmate 800 with the inbuilt Intel Pro Wireless 2100 wireless card, so I was wondering if I can just open up the laptop and replace the current card with the newer Intel Wireless 2200BG card so I will be able to connect to 'g' networks. or doesn’t it work like this? I’m not sure if the connections for the two cards are the same and whether this is possible. I.e. does my laptop need to be compatible with the newer card etc? I’ve seen the 2200BG cards on ebay. I know you can get external USB wireless adapters to connect to 'G' wireless connections but I would really prefer to replace the internal wireless card if possible.
Hope someone in the know can help, we're going cross eyed trying to find out if this will work, many thanks in advance.

a b card should work on a g network (provided that the router is set to b&g support mode - routers/WAPs usually have a setting(b only, g only, or b&g)), albeit at the slower (but 11M/s isn't slow) speed, they are backward compatible. So , it should just work, but you may need to get the IT support dept to check the access point settings.
But to answer your specific question.. if they are mini PCI cards, they should be swapableEver get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0
