Where can I buy a new laptop with xp?

Anyone know of any sites where you can choose to have XP? I think Dell used to let you, will check that one out now.

I think this one is on its way out and prefer XP to Vista. I had BSOD yesterday 3 times and wouldn't go past the splash screen today, had to do loads of reboots, take it through the chkdisk and then reboot again and finally got it on but its freezing a lot and being a bit unresponsive.

Loads of thanks x

XP is generally only available 'new' on netbooks now and no longer has official support from Microsoft.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
  • As far as I'm aware, the only way you'll get XP nowadays is to either buy a Vista computer and format it and install XP, or get a system builder to build you a computer with XP pre-installed. I don't think XP is available to buy off the shelf anymore since it has now entered the extended support phase from Microsoft.

Another 5 years, and it will no longer be updated so it would be very unusual to be able to buy a computer with XP at this stage. I agree about Vista, it is a bit rubbish. I'm currently testing Windows 7, and so far it seems quite good. Maybe you could put up with Vista for around a year and then upgrade to Windows 7, when it comes out, probably around the start of next year?

Dell still supply XP on their computers.

By the sounds of it iwanttosave, your likely problem is with the hard disk - you might consider replacing the hard disk - its possible to backup and restore your existing system onto the new drive...etc...etc..world goes around...blah...blah...hate talking computers I really do.

    Misco supply.
Since when has the world of computer software design been about what people want? This is a simple question of evolution. The day is quickly coming when every knee will bow down to a silicon fist, and you will all beg your binary gods for mercy.

You don't *have* to use something made by Microsoft.

There's always Mac OS X or Linux.

More and more people are dumping Microsoft these days, thanks in no small part to the fiasco that is Vista.
  • Novatech let you choose XP if you want, and it's cheaper than vista. They have a wide choice of laptops.

Thanks, I remembered about Novatech after I posted, I think that might be the best option. I've seen good reviews of them on here as well.

Marty, without starting you off, I'm not an Apple kinda gal :D Even my mobile is Windows :p

I agree its the HDD, I got the blue screen earlier again and I forgot to see what its moaning about but when I tried to boot up it said there was no media cable attached and no OS, the HDD seems to have moved a little and I'm only getting the blue screen when I put the laptop down so I think its maybe loose. It doesn't seem to have anything securing it down though so I'm not surprised.
