Free 12 month Sky Line Rental

I noticed in the paper today that Sky are doing one years free line rental if you take HD pack and calling plan- also available to existing customers(for £60 one off charge).I was wondering if any existing customers had got this charge waived as it seems unfair when new customers are not charged it.Also any general thoughts on going to Sky for line rental.Even if it costs £60, probably saving £100 compared to staying with BT.

Thanks......Neil

The magic words when dealing with Sky are 'I wish to cancel my sub'. You will then be transferred to 'Cancellations' when in actual fact you are being transferred to what they call inside Sky Towers 'Retentions'. Big difference. First question you will be asked is why you are leaving. Then hit them with your gripe. Tip: Sky HATE losing a customer. ;)

Thanks guys, I was reading this whilst on the phone to Sky. My Sky + box stopped working tonight and I just wanted it fixed, but the cheapest option was to get Sky HD ( I don't have a HD TV and have no intention of getting one unless my current TV breaks down) anyway I crumbled and could see no way around it, the sales guy was reading the contract out to me over the phone, half price line rental for 6 months free broadband and the HD box with HD channels that I couldn't watch.

I mentioned the offer quoted above, which he claimed to know nothing about (yeah right) then he did recollect it and said it was for new customers (I didn't see the £60 one fee bit at the bottom, and I guess neither did he)

I told him that I wanted to cancel as it wasn't working and I'm not really that interested in changing my home phone, he said he would transfer me, but proceeded to cut me off - cheeky so and so.

Anyway called back spoke to the cancellation people laid out my problems and now a Sky Engineer is coming around on Thursday afternoon to fix or replace my sky box and to check my dish and wiring all for free!! Hip Hip Hooray - I win.
Lifes problems wouldn't be called hurdles if there wasn't a way to get over them!
