Morning Hypno and Co, glad to see everyone is all bright eyed and bushy tailed today! Our chickens, Pauline and Barietta Cluckle, had to be renamed as OH could not remember which was which. They are now Rocky (the Black Rock) and Sussy (the Sussex) - pathetic choice I know but it suits them. When any of us venture into the garden Rocky comes hurtling along expecting treats and Sussy just minces her way ruffling her feathers. They spend most of the day in a meeting of the escape committee patrolling the garden looking for gaps to get through. At just gone 18 weeks old they should soon be at point of lay so we are waiting expectantly ( or should it be eggspectantly) for that first new laid egg.....
Shaun - re Travel Lodge, have you seen this week's MSE email - Travel Lodge should be releasing thousands of £19 offers tomorrow so get up early and get surfing!!

HI Nargleblast - our chickens are Rocky and Babs is your Sussey a White one? Rocky is black.

Ours started laying at about 18 weeks old and they lay every day!

They are real characters rushing about the garden although they have no started picking on the pheasants and collared doves !!!

Our Rocky is a Black Rock, russet brown in colour, about 18 weeks old. Sussy is a white Sussex with black neck and tail feathers, same age. Rocky's comb is turning red although it is still small, whereas Sussy's comb is still pink. We expect they will lay every day once they start but I am going to have to wave a pack of Paxo at them to motivate them if nothing happens soon!

Don't you feel smug when that happens? Like last night when I called in at a small Sainsburys to find packs of 2 sub rolls (normally 65p) reduced to 20p so I got 3 packs.

One of my work friends has left work today for the last time. She is now officially unemployed. :( Not a good day.

I fell of the "bring lunch to work from home" wagon today. :( I bought a plate of chips from the canteen... :o I did manage to bring yoghurt from home (Dark cherry choc flavour muller corner thing -£1 for 5 in Mr T - yummy) and some fruit so it wasn't a total bust.

Anyone got a spare rock I can hide under??

no hiding under rocks required Taka - yesterday I felt absolutely pants, and bought a sandwich as part of my pants day. It happens.....we move on.

My sandwich today was very mse though - the brie was BOGOF, so I have plenty of it for future lunches, and the jar of cranberry sauce was free in my London Marathon Goodie bag!!

Reading back, that sounds harsh - it isn't supposed to :o
