I had a similar scenario with scottish power ... and found i had been initially missold ... i suggest you contact the ombudsmann and see if you have a case and if so follow up your complaint till your happy with the outcome as it can work out in your favour
I don't think OP has been missold a tariff, more that s/he has failed to read meters and budget.0 -

Correct in the sense that I have not been missold a tariff. But incorrect with regards budget and readings. I was constantly taking readings and submitting them.0 -

Sorry. You were submitting readings. But you weren't reading the meters and using the information to budget!
As said before, I can't see that you have any reason not to pay the full amount and your only option is to negotiate how you will do this. I realise you would prefer posts suggesting ways of reducing the debt but I can't see that being applicable in your case. You could try to negotiate an expended repayment period so long as it is sensible.0 -

oh i agree the amount is owed i do not dispute that. and i realise some form of repayment plan is the only option.
but i'm very busy and submitting readings and calling npower on a regular basis to ask advice on how much to pay, only to be told our monthly payment was enough... when it wasn't is not acceptable. we didn't receive all the statements and i do not have time to chase and question npowers representatives every word.0 -

I do sympathise. I've not had much to do with energy suppliers' customer services for a while but in the past, learned to put the phone down when I was getting nowhere. It's luck whether you get someone who knows what they're talking about or someone struggling with the script.
I've become a bit obsessional about reading meters but would recommend monthly readings and keeping a record. So long as you know how much you're paying per kwh, you can put enough money aside even if your customer readings are ignored.0
