Need good DVD recorder - suggestions?

I need a decent DVD recorder to record the occasional TV programme for my husband who often works nights, and also to re-record some old VHS tapes onto DVD. Anyone got any suggestions? Nothing too complicated to use.

I wouldn't bother with a DVD recorder, get a PVR like the Humax 93000T. vastly easier to use, so you will make the (minimal) effort required to record the progs you want. You can alway get the VHS's transferred to DVD commercially, unless you're talking about dozens, many high street outlets offer this service now. You can then play them back on an existing DVD player.

Does it record VHS to DVD as I do have rather a lot of legacy VHS tapes, my own recordings, which I should like to transfer wholey or partly to DVD?

I got a Toshiba DVD/VCR/HDD unit with a freeview tuner to do just this - £250 at Argos - model is the RDXV48DT. Simple to set up and piece of cake to use.

It does not have a VHS tape drive built in but you can connect one up to it with standard cables, that's what I do.
