if you give more than one option on postage e.g. 1st class, 2nd class or recorded when the buyer comes to pay for the goods do they then choose which option they want or do you have to ask them specifically?

If you have a number of different postage options then it is up to the buyer to tell you which service they require when they come to make payment.-->♥<-- Sugar Coated Owl -->♥<--

If they use paypal the the options are all available on there and they just click the right one and retotal the costs and pay.
Don't forget though, that for items over £30 make sure you cover yourself by listing special delivery as required, not optional.

so if i sell my teapot for over £30 i need to state that it will be sent recorded only. or maybe i should just state recorded only on that item anyway.
another question - sorry- if i offer a postal discount if someone wins more than one item how do i go about sorting out the discount? do i just reimburse them via my paypal account and if so how do i go about that.
will be listing the items in about an hour and have decided to go seperately on each item and informing am selling other parts of the "set".
also how much are you covered for with recorded delivery on insurance or is it nothing because its a recorded delivery? and should i go with recorded or special?
thanks for your help btw it is very much appreciated. There's someone in my head, but it's not me0 -
If you set up a postage discount on eBay then if a buyer buys more than one item from you it automatically deducts the discount.
I think with recorded delivery you are covered up to £30. For anything over this then you would need to use special delivery to ensure that you are properly covered.-->♥<-- Sugar Coated Owl -->♥<--

Recorded and standard mail , cover you up to £30 only. For anything over £30 it must go special delivery. For items over £30 offer no options at all , just quote one price for the UK for special delivery only.
Recorded is the same as standard mail except that the buyer has to sign for it. In the case of a paypal chargeback proving delivery by showing that the person signed for it will stop that chargeback, but of course if the item is lost is doesn't matter how it was sent as you will lose anyway. However, with both recorded delivery and standard mail with a COP you have a claim against the Royal Mail to cover your losses, so personally I don't bother with recorded I just refund my buyer in case of loss and reclaim from the Royal mail.
Sorry, I don't think I am explaining myself at all well, I'm a bit tired trying to list everything with turbo lister doing strange things.
Good luck with the teapot BTW

how do i set up postage discount?
sorry if im being thick. There's someone in my head, but it's not me0 -
Go to My eBay. In the list on the left scroll down to where it says my account. Choose preferences. Under preferences you will see postage and discounts. Click show. Yours probably says 'Offer postage discounts on combined purchases=No. Click edit. You will then see a whole section on entering postage discounts.-->♥<-- Sugar Coated Owl -->♥<--

I'd go with most of this but just to expand on it a little, I always go for proof of postage. It costs nothing other than you have to go to the Post Office rather than just putting stamps on and sticking it in the letter box. Then if you have a claim you can prove you sent it and open up the compensation avenue.
Recorded delivery is 66 pence on top of the normal postage cost for 1st or 2nd class.
A few links to Royal Mail website for you to see the official line...

I have only had one claim of lost post in about 100 sales and I received some stamps from Royal Mail to cover the cost of the item - OK with me.0 -
parkside-stroller, the COP I refer to is the proof of posting, and that gives the same proof of posting, not delivery though, as recorded delivery and saves the 66p per package.
