Having read the OPs post, something doesn't sound right to me. If you write off a 6K car by running into the back of something, you must have been going at a fair speed, and surely the police would be called ? If the OPs car was written off, then surely there must have been significant damage to the bus

the police would surely have established whether the bus lights were working

Exactly, there were also other inconsistancies.

Were you offered a GAP (Guaranteed Asset Protection) policy or an RTI (Return To Invoice) or a Finance GAP policy by Welcome Finance? These are policies that would have been a financial cost to you. But they would have either paid out in the event of a write off back to the invoice price or paid off your finance.

    .

Not relevant. Gap insurance only covers the difference between a comp insurance value and the price of a new replacement. The OP chose NOT to take out fully comp despite it being a requirement of the finanace agreement.

SORRY, Just noticed this has already been said.

my 1st insurence cost 1000 quid on a 1995 astra, i was careful as i know the value of money, and life, and to this day never had an accident. 8 years and around 250,000 miles later. 0 points too.

i do feel forry for anyone caught in an accident, but i will not feel sorry for someone who brings it on themselves!

I believe there is only a requirement to call the police if somebody is injured in an accident or there is a significant obstruction to the highway that requires them to direct the traffic. Otherwise it is unlikely that they would have attended this incident.

If a car and bus collide, and the car is a write off, presumbaly they would have to get a tow truck to take it away, so I would think there would have been an obstruction that took a while to move

Whether or not the bus's lights were working is irrelevant. Yes, the driver could be penalised with a fixed penalty fine but that is unlikely for a first offence.

Pedestrians don't have brake lights. They're not normally 14 feet tall nor are they painted bright red. There can be no excuse for driving into the back of a bus. That is, no excuse other than driver inexperience - a position that is recognised by the insurers' premiums for new or young drivers. In my experience, the difference between TPF&T insurance and fully comprehensive is quite small.

Coming late to this one, but one lesson for the OP (and indeed anyone taking out any loan or finance):

ALWAY READ THE SMALL PRINT AND ASK IF YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND IT

You signed the documents saying you would FC insure the car. You can't claim now you didn't know, as your signature is on the doc.

To be completely honest, I would worry now as to what Welcome's attitude will be as you broke the terms of the agreement, a term that was there to protect them in the event of precisely this set of circumstances. Depending on the terms, a serious breach of the agreement may see them coming after you for the whole amount now.
