5.1 speakers - only rear speakers working

Have 5.1 surround sound speakers but front ones not working.

Any suggestions on how to rectify most welcome.

Thanks

Were they working before or have you just set them up?

    Which amplifier do you have?

Disconnect the fronts, move the rears to the front and see if you can test it in 2 channel mode.

If you don't get any output then it's likely the amp for these channels has failed.

If you do get output the either both fronts have blown or there is a cable problem.

have tested and its not any of the speakers at fault - it must be the amp failure. Any other ideas??

  • You may have some sound software that controls your speaker configuration.

For example I've got Realtek Sound Manager. It displays a small icon at the right hand side of my task bar (near the volume icon). Opening up the software gives me access to all my sound settings such as 2 ch, 4 ch, 6ch and 8 ch, graphic equaliser etc etc.

When I set it on 6ch and carry out a test, it plays a sound from each speaker and highlights which speaker is being tested by way of a nice picture of a lounge speaker set up and highlighting each individual speaker as it's tested.

Just check to see if you have anything similar. Mine came with the motherboard software as it has onboard sound.

I've tried my setup on 2 channels and the sound comes from the two rear speakers. Since your rear speakers are working it might just suggest that you are on a 2 channel setting.

Are there any other settings that you may have missed?

If you open up the windows volume settings from your task bar, go to options and properties, ensure that all the speakers are ticked and then click ok. Just make sure that all the volumes are turned up for each speaker and that they are not muted.

Definitely on 5.1 surround sound setting - all speakers are in working order - just no sound out of front 3 speakers. Rear 2 speakers are working fine
