There is no reason, therefore, to make the assertion that they would have been OK with a Chip & Signatute card, they may even have one!0 -
According to the manager at Tesco the card was a Chip and PIN card. Apparently they were either locked out of their account or never activated the account by going to an ATM. They wouldn't have been required to do this if the card were Chip and Signature.

You obviously do not have a Chip and PIN card or you would also know that you do not need to activate the account by going to an ATM.0 -

Re Chip and PIN card activation - this was a quote from the store manager an not me. As for card activation some require the cardholder to make a phone call to activate them, others don't. There is no standard procedure,as there are no standard ATMs or no standard PIN entry devices.0
