Hi there - it is about 30+ miles from AT but I have just stopped at the Express by Holiday Inn - Stafford M6. I've just had a play with Sunday dates in May & they are starting at £36 per room - this includes a continental breakfast for both of you. Was clean & easy to find from the M6. Nothing fancy. There might be somewhere closer but I don't know the area well.

    Happy travels!

We usually stay at a lovely B&B about 5 mins from Alton Towers - they're self contained chalets - we book a 2 bedroom family one for £80 for the night (inc b/fast).

If you're after a local B&B, google for B&B's in Leek, Staffordshire Moorlands, Ashbourne. Leek has a tourist information centre which may help too. There's also a large caravan site nearby

PS - I'm local to Alton Towers was lucky enough to go every school holidays, usually with someone from school who lived nearby and got free tickets :D
  • We just got back yesterday from Alton Towers, had a fantastic stay at the Uttoxetor Travelodge (Ashbourn Rd) friendly staff and clean hotel, booked it a few months ago during the £9 sale, which is on again this Thursday, we stayed the night before to get an early start for theme park, really easy to get to Alton Towers, directions as soon as you come out of Travelodge, only approximately 7 miles away. We paid

The Travelodge has a Little Chef next door and a McDonalds near (great if you have young ones) also a shop around the corners which sells sandwiches too. £3 to park, but please can I point out that people with blue badges park for free at Travelodge’s, which I carry one and didn't know this, also we were nicely surprised to find that on the way out of Alton Towers we had our £5 ready to pay for parking, but the attendant noticed our blue badge and said it was free.

not sure when you wanted to stay but have you tried ringing the hotel and quoting the half price sun hotel offer ,weve booked for one night in june we paying £63.00 for 2 adults 2 children including breakfast... very pleased with that.
;)you spend the first years of your childs life encouraging them to walk and talk and then spend the next 15 years telling them to sit down and shut up!
  • I would second the Holiday Inn Express mentioned earlier - we went there 3 weeks ago and thought it was MUCH nicer than any travelodge we've stayed in, and the breakfast far better than we thought it would be.

Also paid £36 a night - bargain! Harvester next door good too!

  • You have just got to stay at the castle inn.It is a lovely relaxed little place, really close to Alton Towers and they serve the most fantastic food in the world.I had the best meal of my life in that little place. Its worth a stay for the food alone.Theres also the 'Devils !!!!' the massive cave where they filmed the BBC version of the Narnian story' The silver chair' just off the top of the street, also a ruined castle which is a lovely walk at top of street.
Castleton is beautiful,if you stay I promise you will want to return again.
