Australian visa question - partner...

HI,

We have been thinking about going travelling and getting a working holiday visa for Australia for some time but have to leave it a while because we need to save.. Now my boyfriend of 3 years is at the end of his tether with his job, he came home friday and we started to look for new jobs for him to apply to, and stumbled across one in Oz. He has knowledge of software that is quite rare (one of just ten accredited trainers in the UK) so I think his skills will be highly desirable and there is a good chance that he would get sponsorship to go and work out there. But what about me? I am a graduate, but yet another business graduate with no particular highly sought after skills. Does anyone know enough about the immigration process to say how hard it would be for me to get a visa to go with him as his partner, or would I have to find work before I arrived?
Thanks

My guess is that you would have to fill out a LOT of forms and have a LOT of paperwork to convince Australian Immigration that you were together to get a visa. This would include stuff like joint bank accounts or tennancy agreements, bills etc. You might also need supporting statements from people who have known you for a while about how long you have been together etc.
Or else you could get married.
This would probably get you a visa to live in Australia with him, but whether it would get you a visa to work, I don't know.

    Good Luck with it all.

If he has enough points to get a skilled independent visa , then this is the way to go as you would be able to go anywhere in OZ . I would only say go for the sponsored route if he hasnt got enough points to get an independent 1. You do not need a seperate visa if you are included on his as a de facto partner . There would be no restrictions on you working . Good luck
  • he has just this second checked and he is eligible for the skilled visa programme. this is good news, one step closer. we've both found great jobs to apply for in Perth

We have a joint bank account and have lived together for 2 years, so now its just a case of saving some moolah and actually getting the visas.

    Thanks for your replies!

Good luck! And if you don't qualify as his partner you could always make him marry you - then they'd have to let you in, and give you a work permit! :D

Hi, have a look on www.britishexpats.com

They have a discussion forum with an australia immigration sub forum.

You will find a LOT of info there. It is the biggest expats forum online and has literally all the info you are likely to need if you trawl through using the search option. Also the regular users include loads who are doing or have done what you are suggesting and so are a mine of information

You should qualify as a defacto spouse for a type 100 visa.

It's best if you have joint finances and they want to see old photos, evidence that you go on holiday together, that sort of thing.

It'll be much better for him if he can get in as a skilled migrant rather than sponsored. If he's sponsored and loses his job he has 28 days to get a new one before he's thrown out of the country.

I'm a Pom in Aus. PM me if you like as I'm not on this board much.
