I've never used a spreadsheet but I want to use one for household accounts.

I think you need to be a bit more specific that is an open ended question - spreadsheets can do an awful lot, I'd suggest you buy a intro/"dummies" book into spreadsheets.0

Open excel, type mortgage, gas, elec etc in column a, type amounts in column b, then put a sum somewhere in column b, eg =SUM(B1:B12) will total all cells between b1 and 12.0

You can get tutorials on YouTube ( its not all happy slapping)
