Washing machine glass door imploded

My washing machine glass door imploded the other day whilst doing a final spin. The machine is no more than 18months old. I've contacted Hoover who are sending out an engineer today, but they want me to pay £109 for the call out.
A friend of a friend used to be a Hoover engineer and he has said Hoover use glass instead of Pyrex and this has happened several times before, something Hoover deny.
All the clothes in the machine are either ripped or covered in glass, so unuseable.
Hoover have said if they are at fault they will fix the machine and not charge me for the callout, but I am not happy with using this or any of their machines again. Can I request my money back, and who is liable for my ruined clothes? My house insurance has a £150 excess and will only refund me less wear and tear if I can produce receipts and photographic evidence.
I am also concerned this may happen to someone else, fortunately my children were not in the kitchen, I know there's no point wondering what if, but if a piece of glass had hit them or in the eye this would be much more serious.
Any advice? What are my rights?
Thanks,
Julie

Was it an implosion or an explosian? If it was an implosion I doubt it would hit anyone in the eye.0

It imploded but was doing a fast spin. There was a lot of glass all over the kitchen.0

Glass does sound a little dodgy for a washing machine door, I'd say contact Hoovers complaints Dept. If they have one, Must have been alot of pressure inside the machine to do that.0

I dont think it would matter if it was an implosion or explosion , for 18 months thats pretty dangerous and should still work as intended.
I'm sure someone will advise you about this soon on your rights , im not clued up enough to offer anything else sorry.0
