No claims proof

My previous insurer worked on the basis of no claims to a maximum 5 years. (Privilege). I took out insurance online with them two years ago and they restarted my no claims from 5 years instead of the actual 13 years it should have been. Now I have to trawl back through bank statements and credit cards to try to find out who I was insured with when to try to prove 9 years no claims with my new insurer. Privilege also renewed automatically (without me ever agreeing to that) using my credit card details from last time I renewed and sent out insurance documents two days after my cover ran out without sending a reminder.
What cowboys are running these insurance companies?

i think most companies will renew automatic unless you tell them otherwise. mine is due in may and i just recieved my renewal last week with plenty of time to cancel if i wanted.

Although you have gone 13 years without making a claim, the NCD max is 5 years.

So if you had a claim during year 14, (and your discount wasn't protected), then you would normally go down to 3 years NCD at renewal, irrespective of the 13 years claim free history.

Mandy, I agree with Quentin, but if by some chance you have found a company that will allow more than five years NCD please let us know.

    thanks

I have seen some co's that allow you to declare more than 5 years NCB but I can't imagine many people actually choose to declare more than 5 or 6 years NCB (even if they technically have more) because you can only prove the maximum your last co allowed.

Please don't ask me to name them because I can't :D I just remember seeing them when shopping around at renewal time in November.
