Cwmcarn Forest Drive might suit well, it's £5 for a car and has 6 or 7 stopping points with play areas, sculptures so you can stay near car or run around. Nice views.Torgwen..........

The Big Welsh Bite Food Festival in Pontypridd is a really good FREE event for all ages - we went on all three days last year and we can't wait to go again this year!!!
This years dates are July 31st - 2nd August with plenty to do and see with something for everyone.
Loads more free events on www. whatsonrct. co.uk check it out :rotfl:0 -
You can't beat St Fagan's for a day out, suits all ages in my opinion. Costs £3 to park your car for the day (or if you think you'll go back regularly it's worth paying £15 for an annual pass). Take a picnic as there are plenty of grassy areas to sit.
My 4 year old loves it, I try to introduce a bit of history and factual info and she does take it in. Lovely walks and burns off lots of energy.
Cardiff Bay Barrage is nice for half a day I would say, you can walk/cycle over to the park and walk across to the Bay - again costs a couple of pounds parking for the day. You could incorporate this with a visit to Penarth top and the Pier - parks and walks again.
Roath Park lake is nice for a walk, and the park is lovely.
I seem to have lots of 'active' ideas, I hope Great Gran can get about.
How close to Barry are you? The Amelia Trust Farm is a nice half day out if you like sheep, pigs and cows. It is what you make of it - you can spend an hour or 4 hours there, depending on what walks you do and how long your kids stay interested in the park and animals. You can take a picnic, hire a BBQ or use the cafe facilities which are very good value for money.
Of course then you've got Barry Island, The Knap and Porthcerry Park for beaches - you don't have to spend money to go there! Apart from over the Island, parking is free.
Give us an idea of what you like doing and where you live and I'll see what else I can think of.0 -
Oh just thought, you can convert your Tesco clubcard vouchers into Folly Farm tickets (West Wales) - that is a great day out for all the family, and other than petrol it'll cost you nothing!0

Margam park, lots of open grass and deer to look at, plus theres an orange orchard and a maze (I think its still there) and the manor house if you want a bit of culture. Walking may be a bit hard on grannie but if you go during high season they run a little train that takes you to various little "stations" all over the park.:A:A:A:A:A:A0
