Not much really, many lenders use it to help fraud prevention. Only if your details throw up an alert would you probably get asked to clarify.

What secret agency? It was written about back in Jan '07 - that's over 2 years ago. The article itself indicates it was known about earlier.

Just because it's not as well advertised as Experian/Equifax doesn't make it 'secret.'

Personally, I think as they're pretty much 'operated' by Experian, they should be covered by a £2 report.

They're not mentioned as a resource in rejection letters as one of the criteria for assessing an application, that an applicant should refer to for further information.

They still AFAIK have no telephone number or email address for the public to contact them on.

OK, they do a more specific job than Experian/Equifax/CallCredit but if they are used in a decision, they should be a little more transparent in providing the opportunity for applicants to get details of the information held.

    I whole heartily agree.

They should be covered by the £2 fee.

    They do have a telephone number it's 0870 850 6561.

If you're being rejected because of data held by NH, then the firm rejecting you should be telling you that, and that you need to check your data on NH (much as they do if it's a result of Experian or Equifax.)

Just because Barclaycard (or whoever) isn't telling you this, isn't the fault of NH. From the linked Guardian article above:
[Managing director of NH Tracy Wingrove] adds "Our members are required to include certain key elements within the declaration/fair processing notices section of their application forms. The wording should indicate that applicants can find out which fraud prevention agencies are used and the method by which they can find this out.

"Our members must ensure that this information is made readily available to the applicant and preferably by means of a dedicated telephone contact number. If you ask your bank, it has to tell you about our existence."
