What type of tradesman would you ask to rebuild a patio?

We want to rebuild our patio but don't really know if this is more likely to be a job for a garden landscaper or a builder or which would be the most likely to get the best result.
It is next to the house and raised approx a foot above the garden level. The length nearest the garden sits on a brick wall and the current patio is laid on rubble behind this. We intend to take out this wall and decrease the size of the patio, a new wall would then need to be built (we are considering making the border of the patio into a planter so in that case would want two parallel lengths of wall built) new patio slabs laid and steps up to it built.
Does anyone who has done anything like this have any tips on where to start?

Laying a patio is one of those jobs that both builders and Lanscapers can do as its pretty simple really. The only thing i would suggest is that you see photo's of other jobs he/she has already done either that or go to your local trade iornmonger/ builder supplies (not B&Q) and ask them to recomend one for you.Money's too tight to mention!!!0

have any of your neighbours had a patio done, have a look at theirs and see what you think about the finished product, if you like finished product ask for a number and ring them to get a quoteNo Links in Signature by site rules - MSE Forum Team 20

I agreed both builders and landscapers can do the work, the landscaping company may be more plant orientated and come up with a planting plan for the planters and new boarder and or lay the extra turf on the extented lawn
But who ever does it make sure they ask about your damp proof course as you do not want the patio to bridge it and tell them if you know of any services running under the current patio.Rich people save then spend.
Poor people spend then save what's left.0 -

This is something we're worried about actually, it looks like the existing patio is above the damp proof course! There is cabling beneath the patio which we put it in ourselves so think it is deep enough below the garden level to avaid problems + it's pretty obvious where it is as there is still a gaping hole above it- one of the reasons for a new patio!
None of the neighbours have redone theirs but we'll keep an eye out for others who have had this kind of work done recently.0 -
i take it you dont have family member who does patios cos then you could get a reduced priceNo Links in Signature by site rules - MSE Forum Team 20

Just a quick one on this... if it's a simple, flat patio then just about anyone could do it - even you if you wanted to... it really is easy (although you might need to hire a cutter for the edges).
If it has levels, or steps, or curved edges, then get someone with experience in there.CarQuake / Ergo Digital0
