Advice needed about Car insurance please

We're a two car family - but both vehicles are insured in my DH's name and I'm a named driver on both policies, as he has protected no claims bonus.
I've not had a car insured in my own name now for 10 years. This is because between 1999 and 2006 I had access to a company car and was insured through my workplace. In both jobs I did during this time I did a fair bit of driving (in excess of 18 000 business miles a year) and did not have any accidents.
Moved back into local Government in 2006 and my DH thought it would be better if both vehicles were insured under his name. Obviously he can't drive both at the one time, so one of the cars is technically mine.
I'm concerned that if I drive another vehicle, I won't be covered under 3rd party, fire and theft, as I'm only a named driver. There may be occasions when I might have to drive my parents vehicles and I'm not a named driver on their policies.
Would I have to go back to a zero no claims? Or am I likely to find an insurance company that will look favourably on my driving history? (been driving for 21 years, one accident in 1993 and 3 penalty points for speeding in 2005) My last car insurance was with Zurich in 1999, is it worth contacting them?
Any advice would be gratefully received!

As a named driver you will not benefit from the "Driving other cars" extension which actually covers you for Third Party Only cover not TPF&T.
I assume you are legally married, if this is the case most Insurers will allow your husband to transfer one of the no claims bonuses into your name. This normally involves him writing a letter to the effect "I confirm I transfer the no claims bonus for xyz car into the name of my wife Mrs X, I understand this cannot be transferred back". This will then enable one of his no claims bonuses to be transferred into you name. If you have problems finding a company to do this just pop into a local broker as they should be able to sort this out for you with minimum fuss. I would not be surprised if you find the Insurance is cheaper in your name as insurance for females is generally cheaper0 -
Some insurers (such as Direct Line) can provide no claims bonuses for named drivers or those driving company cars - I'm not sure if that applies only to those who held the insurance with them though it might be worth finding out0

Thanks for the info. Yes, we are legally married although I haven't taken my DH's surname, but we do have the marriage certificate to prove it!0
