Looking for advice about tenants insurance

I'm moving out of student accommodation soon and into a privately rented house. The letting agency are advertising Tenants Insurance with Endsleigh. Past experience shows that Endsleigh can be more expensive than other companies so I was wondering:
1. What exactly is tenants insurance and what does it cover?
2. Can someone recommend a good company to go with for this?
Thanks

Were with M&S as they do unlimited cover, and cover away from home at no extra charge... which is handy this week as we have the keys to our new house and have started moving stuff over but we dont hand the keys back to our old place till friday
Surely though insurance is a personal thing, what is good for one person, might be absolute rubbish for another person..
Ring round or go online and get quotes and see which one is best for you... Dont necessarily go with the cheapest as they may not cover what you need...0 -
Thanks. The few I've looked at so far (barclays, etc) don't seem to cover away from home which is a major factor as my main valuable item is my guitar which I play at church and cost nearly £2k so need it insured..it's currently insured under my student possessions insurance but I can't continue that once I've moved.0

M&S will probably be worth looking at then for you0

I'm with Homelet which do tenants insurance at a reasonable price- sorry I can't remember how much I paid now but it was under £100.
Tenants insurance basically gives you contents insurance only, but it also covers accidental damage to the landlord's property such as carpets and curtains.
So, if I spilled red wine all over my landlord's pure white carpet, he would insist that I pay for the damage (spilling red wine is not fair wear and tear), but with tenants insurance I can claim it on my insurance rather than paying out the money for a new carpet or cleaning services.
A lot of letting agencies now insist on tenants having this sort of insurance and mine offered a lower deposit because of it.
Have a look at Homelet- they are reasonably priced and really efficient to deal with.'I can't deny the British influence on my accent and mannerisms, but I don't know the British national anthem, I didn't weep for Princess Diana and I always cheer when Britain loses at sport.
