Hi, found this sheet produced by Ofgen may be worth a read through.
If you suspect your meter is faulty then get in touch with your supplier who will arrange to have it tested.

Most companys will ask you do to a consumption test before they will check it themselves ie. make a note of everything you use whilst taking readings every day.
If you still think there is a problem you can request a meter test - most companies charge for this but you will get your money back if a fault is found, if no fault is found then you don't get your money back.
Is it that the meter is whirring round faster or have your bills gone up?
If you have a bill from last year, compare the usage and also remember that gas prices gave, on average, inthe past year, risen by 30% (or something ridiculous like that)A minion trying to save the world from Corporate blood suckers!0 -
It may be that they have changed your old imperial meter, which would be measuring in cubic feet to a metric meter, measuring in cubic meters. A metric meter runs about 3 times faster than an imperial meter.
When you are converting units used in to kWh on an imperial meter you do the following:
1 Subtract your current reading from your previous reading.
2 multiply this by 2.83.
3 multiply by the calorific value (found on your bill)
4 multiply by the volume correction (usually 1.022640)
5 divide by 3.6
6 you now have the total kWh used
For a metric meter it is the same just omit part 2. It will be in the front of the meter if it is metric on imperial.

Thank you all for the above replies. At the moment as lizzie said they have asked me to note the meter readings at the same time for 7 days. They seem to think the usage is high roll on 7 days for next installment.
cheers
