Do I need to provide wage slips during rent application?

I am in the process of going for a rental house via a letting agency. The length of the tenancy is 6 months and as I have an appalling credit raiting, I will be paying the full 6 months rent upfront, but the letting agency have said they still need a guarantor and a credit search on either myself or the guarantor.
They also said all credit checks and other checks are done by Endsleigh and Endsleigh will need to contact my boss. What will they ask my boss? The application form also says the process will be quicker if I provide an email address or fax number for my boss. What will that be for?
Not sure if it makes any difference, but they use Endsleigh for the Rent Guarantee Insurance.
Thanks in advance.

If I ask for an employers reference, which, to be honest, is getting rarer, then it would be:
1. Can you confirm that X has worked at your company since Y?
2. Can you confirm that X earns, on average, Z gross per month?
3. Do you have any reason to expect that you will terminate the employment of X during the term T of the tenancy?0 -
Thanks, are they likely to send my boss a form to fill in or will they ask him via email rather than phone? Just wondering why having an email address would speed the process up. Thanks0

I think you need to ask them that.0

Both times on renting properties, neither letting agents have contacted my employer, even though I had to put it in the apllication.
Just thought Id let you know.0 -
Ok thanks. My concern is...I work part time during term time (getting an average of £600 a month) and also have a student loan (an average of £500 PCM) so would I be likely to get a rental property in these circumstances even though I'm paying the rent upfront and have a guarantor or would I find it difficult not being in full time employment?
I'm fairly sure my boss would say my job was full time if needed but I like being honest.0 -

Be careful with paying up front = what happens if your landlord goes bankrupt or gets repossessed? Make sure your money is protected ie held separately not handed straight over to the landlord. They deem him their worst enemy who tells them the truth. -- Plato0 -
With my application they just wanted a letter to state how much I earned, was my job under notice how long have i worked there. I just asked my workplace for this and handed it in with my application. I would be totally honest as even the smallest white lie could get you in trouble. I had to have a guarentor for 6 months as I was under 25 and it was my 1st rental0

Are the letting agency likely to require me to provide payslips or is it purely my boss confirming my wages? Thanks0

It'll be a simple - what does he do, for how long, and for how much money - type of reference. No employer is going to really state much more as they are almost guaranteeing something that they can't guarantee.
The guarantor is probably in place in case the tenancy goes periodic, as its past your 6 months in advance if it hits a 7th month and they have no guarantee you'll pay.0
