hey all.
hoping there's been a horrible mistake, but knowing my luck, probably not!
i was required to renew my BT account in september last year (i had finished my 12 month contract which i took up in my old flat, and was moving just as it expired- handy!), and i wanted to switch to talktalk in order to get their broadband into my new flat. i was told by both BT and talktalk that as long as i did the switchover within two weeks of the new BT contract, i would incur no charges. all fine.
about three weeks ago however, after 6 months of blissful non-contact from BT, i received a bill for £61.15. when i checked my account online i found a 'one-off charge' of £81.49 minus my rental charges and benefits, so leaving me with a bill of £61.15.
i don't really understand why! i was told very clearly by both parties that i would incur NO charges. if this was not the case, i'd like to have been told! i'm a poor student and need warning for things like this!
not only that, but why did they wait 6 months to tell me?
has anyone had any luck arguing things like this?
cheers guys!
(p.s. i'm really sorry if this is an identical repeat of someone else's post and i've not spotted it!)

If you took out a contract on a new BT Line at your new abode then it would have been for a minimum of 12 months, and cancelling it early can result in a cancellation fee of up to £70.
Seems like you were mislead.0
