artificial flowers

Hi Everyone,

My sister gets married August 22nd and i am maid of honour!

I am trying to help her as much as poss with ideas and ways to save money and she has decided artificial are a good way of saving some. She wants calla lilies for herself , 5 bridesmaid's and for the buttonholes.

The question is where is the best place to buy them? (if anyone has done or doing artificial)
Whats the best to go for foam etc?

I did see some foam ones in Wilko but they did not look very good.

Many Thanks Charlotte x

Firstly congrats to your sister :T.

Unfortunately I have never seen any artificial flowers that look anything like the real think (I have a particular aversion to plastic dewdrops) so will be eying this post with interest!

    Congrats to your sister :j

I got foam roses from ebay and Hobbycraft and they are fantastic, I can really vouch for them.

Have only ever seen silk lilies, I'm sure it is possible to find some nice looking ones.

I opted for fake flowers so that :
    a) I can do them myself,
    b) they will last after the wedding
    c) I don't have to worry about collecting flowers the day before the wedding and keeping them fresh
    d) they do work out cheaper.

I am having artificial flowers, but my friend has a card for a store called Country Baskets so I am going to be getting mine from there and they are very life like.

I ordered a Cala Lily sample from Sarahs Flowers and was impressed with the quality. It is made from a rubbery material (not sure if it's foam as I've never seen a foam flower before!) and she has some gorgeous bouquets, buttonholes, caketoppers etc.

I think they are called 'Real Touch' flowers. I ordered the stargazer lily sample too but it was silk.

Hi I got my silk flowers from this lady, it was £81 for:

    3 bridesmaid bouquet
    1 brides bouquet
    10 flower/vases bouquets
    5 buttonholes, 2 'fancy'
3 large table decorations for the top table

here's the link to her ebay shop:

and these are similiar to the flowers I have:

I added black feathers to them as that's part of my theme and changed the ribbon used to black, it was very easy but she is lovely and probably will accomodate you if you ask her to change a few details, she's really fast at posting as well.

    Thanks everyone,

Will have a nosey at them! might order a sample from various places and then compare. Might be an idea for us to add real greenery to the fake flowers.

I am growing loads of different flowers in my garden so that we can use these as table decorations, so that should save her some money lol! Maybe even source out some ivy that is growing around the trees in a nearby lane for greenery, and its free!!

I will keep you informed of where i get them from, in the mean time anymore ideas or tips appreciated. Thanks Charlotte x
  • I ordered some sample flowers from Sarahs Flowers and they had 3 different lilac/purple roses so I ordered all of them - 2 were great but one was a bit cheap and quite fake looking so glad I got the sample cos now I know what not to go for!
