Redrabbit, you are right, you will pay a premium going in December and taking that into account the Tunisia Holiday is not that expensive for peak season. Just make sure you do alot of research on Tunisia, its a Love/Hate kind of place (I hated it). Have a look on Tripadvisor you will get a better feel of what the country is like and then you can decide.
The thing I didnt like the most, was you couldn't just go for a drink, there are no bars as its a muslim country, but I should of done more research!
Thanks.
Honestly, I'm not set on Tunisia at all, it was one of the first places I started looking at.
It could be Mexico, Turkey, Egypt... whatever. Anywhere outside of mainland Europe and isn't effected by the Euro.Amo L'Italia0 -
I agree that £1000 each is a lot. At first I thought it was for 2, but then re-read.
I am booked for the Riu Bellevue next door for May £400 each from Glasgow. I thought that was a good deal when comparing with the likes of Egypt etc, and other AI's.
Try this link...Thomas Cook discounted. No c/card fee and free insurance if you book using a barclaycard... I think you can book with other cards too. http://www.thomascook-barclaycard.com/
Is your £400 for 1 week or two?
Your hotel is a 4* and the Riu Imperial Marhaba is a 5*.
You're going in May, but the OP is looking at 2 weeks in August.
I've done a check and the price at the Imperial Marhaba is almost double that of the BelleVue.
Big difference. If we're going to offer alternatives, shouldn't we at least compare apples and apples?

from what you've said, I think it's back to the drawing board.
I have booked for 2 weeks B&B in Turkey in June, from the research I've done it doesn't seem much cheaper to eat out there than in Greece.0 -
I think the people have made him go off the holiday originally planned, It is August and the hotel chosen is a nice property
You get what you pay for, this hotel is 5 stars and is real nice, go with original plans I sayI am a Travel Agent

just wanted to stay that this hotel was the first all inclusive holiday i went on* please keep in mind it was 1999 when myself and my husband visited this resort
we met some super friends the resort was clean and freindly. the food was good it was so hot .the place just had a nice relaxed feel about it..the rooms were of a good standard not as large or plus as some that you would get in mexico ! but a 5* star in mexico has always cost me 3000+
in short
the sun shines ALOT
the hotel is clean tidy relaxed ( but not party central)
the staff on our stay were so nice
the food was good and at the time of our stay you could also book the italian or the tunisian restaurant
we ate so much lol so it must have been ok
the port is pretty but not breath taking
and the market well thats an experience
i have also visited mexico and egypt
its a hard one to call but tunisia have the all inclusive idea more worked out its a little hit and miss at the egyptian hotels
however if you wish to eat out i would reccomend sharm el shiekh we stayed this year at the concorde el salam hotel rooms very similar to the rio in tunisia but amazing snorkling just off the hotel pier and a 5 min taxi into namma bay lots of life and places to eat
hope this helps a little:j a smile goes a long way every day:j0 -

Questions:
1)
I seen that the inclusive text says:
Unlimited local alcoholic and soft drinks at both hotel bars and restaurants except piano bar, disco and beach bar; time restrictions will apply
I guess that's normal, but was just wondering how that will impact on us, in terms of spending. I can imagine sitting by the pool/beach all day, you'd want a drink there, not to keep going inside, and drinking there. I guess you can't take the drink outside as well?
2)
I also plan to eat out a fair few nights, although breakfast and lunch will almost always be at the hotel. Do you think that sounds OK?
3)
How expensive is it in Tunisia to eat out, is it similar to England or cheaper?
I've never been all inclusive before. Thanks everyone.
I am from Tunisia and I can help you if you need0 -
Thank You all for your help - very useful.
I've been looking and it seems that I can probably get what I want for between £900-£1000.
I know I want to go away for 2 weeks, and maybe bed and breakfast is the best option as we like to eat out, and have more freedom.
Been looking at:
- Egypt
- Tunisia
- Turkey (been to Side before, not sure where else is good)
- Mexico - too expensiveAmo L'Italia0 -

I'd sugest you try asking questions on these 2 websites:

http://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/ForumHome
Both have dedicated boards for those destinations.0 -
if you were looking at turkey oludeniz is really lovely although not been to urkey for 10 years
side was a good place but not been there for even longer and things change.
To me it looks like a lot of money for tunisia but it is your choice and 5star,
I would do alot of research before booking and if happy with the place and price go ahead and book.
if i wasn't tied to a particular place i would think of booking nearer the time to try and get a better deal.
Seems close to brochure price and i never pay brochure price i am a tight !!!!. I PAY WHEN I HAVE TO0 -

Comparing a £400 holiday and a £1000 holiday was unlikely to be like comparing apples and apples. However, the Bellevue does get the highest ratings in the resort on Tripadvisor and I am thinking it looks great. That's why I offered the information!
It does sound however that the OP has been put off Tunisia. I agree that you could go lots of other places for that amount of money, but really depends where OP would like to explore perhaps.0
