New washing machine advice needed

Hi there,

I have got about £500 to spend on a new washing machine and want a good quality one.

Would love a miele as we have a miele dishwasher, however i was hoping for one with a lrge capacity 7/8/9kg as will be hoping for babies in a few years and would like to do fewer big washes on sunny days!:)

Miele only do 6kg!? more or less same as was i get now with my hotpoint.

DO you think i am better getting a miele or a hotpoint/candy/hoover 8/9kg one for about £400?!

any advice, tips, ideas greatly appreciated

no way would I ever consider a
    hotpoint/Candy/hoover no matter
how big it was over a Meile.

I know others will be on here to
    agree there is no comparison
took me a long time to realise
you buy one meile machine it
    washes everything to perfection
and you will still be using twenty
years and more without ever seeing
a repair man in your home.

I love my Meile its a real workhorse
with a family and for long time, full
time carer as well, its hardly ever off
I would put reliability and performance
before capacity every time.A full load
washed and spun in 31 mins and everything
perfect, totaly silent in use as well which
is a bit bizzare at first but a bonus when
    you have sleeping babies.
We used to get at best may be 3 or 4 years
from washing machines till we got this.

  • thanks rose kitten, i nderstand what ure saying & i suppose for 31 minutes i could do 2 washes like i do with my current hotpoint.

    what model do you have?
r the washer dryers reliable 2?

I bought an 8kg LG Washer/Dryer three years ago and have been very happy with it. I was originally going to buy a Bosch as my parents swore by their 8 yr old one, but on advice of John Lewis sales assistant and which/washer help review, I ended up settling on LG one and have not regretted the decision, esp with 2 kids.

The direct-drive technology is fairly new to the market, however as many repairs are due to the drum being damaged due to heavy loads, direct-drives have been found to be more reliable as they don't shake. Another bonus, which swung me, was that they are extremely quiet on a spin, which is a great help living in a flat. Cosmetically, it looks good, with a chrome door and easy to use nobs etc and quick wash/delayed timer etc. Since I've bought one, several of my friends and even my mother in law, have since purchased on. LG are massive over in Asia but it is still easy to find spare parts here too. I think my one (WD 12311RD retails between £400 -£500). Co-op Electricals supplied me.
  • have just read that the mieles only was 3kg on their quick washes!:( thats not much is it?
Also for the A rated spin they are £800+

some of the cheaper machines come with long waranties so surely if they break they will get repaired?

I have a Miele Washer/Dryer. Paid mega bucks for it when new.....after 8 years an electricial putting in an electrical socket for something else managed to break the door ( he did pay for the repair)

As I had never had it serviced I got Mr Miele out to fix and service....Mr Miele said it looked as if it had hardly been used.....(wow) I think it is the greatest machine since sliced bread...

About the 3kg quick wash....do you not mean it will only dry 3kg's? Do all washer/dryers not only dry small amounts?
Today, my BEST is good enough.

Don't know for sure, but was told by a salesman that larger drum sizes mean that the wash takes longer.

After my crappy old Hotpoint died recently I also had to buy a new Machine. I did lots of reading on Which? and ended up buying a Miele- yes it was expensive but its the best machine ever. 6KG load is fine for us and we are family of 5.

A general 40C wash takes 1hr and 20mins and it really does a good job. Mine also came with a 10 year guarantee- this was special offer but the norm is 5 years anyway!

    Thoroughly recommend the Miele!

This was for washing a quick 30minute wash will only do 3kgs, thats what it says in the specs:

Express wash Y For washing up to 3kg in 30 minutes

  • I got a hotpoint AQGMD149 washer/dryer for £400 when comet had discounts on, reduced from £500 and it has an 8kg capacity, and is an A rating.

It's got loads of handy programs too, I love it (as much as one can love their washing machine!)

There's a review on myshoppingtips :) Hope that helps!

I just fill mine up and wash
    quick wash cycle 31 mins
    mixed wash 118 mins
    wool cycle 40 mins
    deliccates 57 mins

    you can pick different temps
    from cold to 95 degree

I put virtualy everything on the
quick wash 40 degrees and it all
    comes out fine

the long 157 mins wash cycle
I do the sheets and towels on
perhaps once a month and mine
is just a standard one from the
    range nothing special.

Before I got mine I was getting
served in John Lewis and asked the
lady serving which was the best
    most reliable machine,before she
had a chance to reply eight people
in the queue behind me all butted in.
all bar one said get a Meile. All said
the same brilliant results and dead
    reliable.I was quite taken aback
by how vocal they all were one of
    them had bought hers secondhand
11 years old and she had been using
it herself for 23 years and all agreed
you could kiss goodbye to the repair
    man calling.The lady serving agreed
    with them

Think about it how many sunny
days do we get here ?
A family with a broken washing
machine or one on the way out
is a nightmare and over the years
the money I have spent replacing
washing machines adds up to a
    fair amount.I understand the concept
now you buy one washing machine
and never need to buy another.
